Well we just got a call from the cabinetmaker’s wife letting
us know that the cabinet doors won’t be showing up today. Apparently, it’s
taking longer than expected to do all the putty work, sanding, and painting. The
new delivery date is slated for Tuesday, December 11. I am now going to attempt
assuming the Lotus position, take several deep, cleansing breathes, and murmur,
“Oooommmm.”
On the high side, it means we have the house to ourselves
until then and can kick back and relax. No sounds of drills, hammers, or saws. We
can take naps this weekend and indulge in our cheese, dips, and bread snacks
for lunch. Bronte and Olivia won’t have to be cooped up in one of the bedrooms
while the workmen are here.
It also means this is the perfect opportunity to start humming this classic ditty from Eric Idle:
Always Look on the Bright Side of
Life (from Monty Python)
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.
So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...
Hi Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteThat's a great song and fits the moment so well.
My sentimental favorite's always been the Universe Song.
Chin up. It'll all be better soon... Any day now... Right now... Soon come...
Cheers,
Dave
I remember that song from the movie "The Life of Brian". When they are all nailed to the cross, they start singing this song. I thought I would die laughing, the movie was so funny. But then again, you have to like Monty Python's humour. It is not for everyone.
